Christmas is always a special time of year. Whether it’s going through every store to find the perfect gift for those special people in our lives, pulling out the box of Christmas decorations that have been in storage all year just waiting to be put up, or finding the perfect tree, many of our fondest memories are made during this season. Whether it’s fun, fellowship, or food, we find ourselves full, physically and even emotionally by the overwhelming amount of sights, sounds, and savors.
While these are all great things, we can so easily lose sight of what's really important, the birth of our Savior. Mixed in with such classic songs as "White Christmas," “Let It Snow,” or "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” the holiday shopping, fancy light shows, or ice-skating at the Lakeland Center, it's easy to forget a small babe wrapped in swaddling clothes in a crude manger surrounded by barnyard animals. It’s not nearly as glamourous as the show the world puts on, but then again, God’s way never really is, is it?
This Christmas season, let’s remember, as cliché as it has become at times, the reason for the season, “for a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, NLT).
Merry Christmas Abundant Life!
